Katrina Hancock started her professional career as a sports broadcaster at KGWN-TV in Cheyenne, Wyoming, in January 2001. Covering rodeo, the University of Wyoming sports and all the Denver professional teams gave her the start she needed in her journalism career. She then moved back to her home state of Kansas in June 2002, where she worked for KSNT-TV in Topeka, Kansas covering the University of Kansas, Kansas State and Washburn University.

After three years in two markets, Katrina moved again; this time to Toledo, Ohio where she worked for WTVG-TV until 2006. She covered the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, the Toledo Mud Hens and high school sports.

Finally ready for a top-30 market, she moved north to Detroit, Michigan in December 2006 and took a job at WDIV-TV.

“This was a dream of mine to work in a major market, and Detroit was perfect for my next stop. My mentor, Dave Snell, encouraged me to take the job to expand my portfolio of work, and learn what it was like to cover professional teams in such a special sports town.”

The main reason she took the job at Channel 4 was the opportunity to host a half-hour sports show on Sunday nights, “Sports Final Edition.” Alongside veteran broadcaster Rob Parker and former Lions offensive lineman Lomas Brown, Katrina found her niche. She loved recapping the week’s events on Sunday nights.

After 12 years in sports broadcasting, Katrina left her television career behind. She started her own media business, Media Creations by Katrina, LLC. As a consultant, she offered clients video production services, photography, script writing, interview coaching and more.

In January 2014, she moved back to Kansas where she worked for Tabor College as a director of communications. She worked in Hillsboro and Wichita, Kansas, for over two years, providing an updated digital experience to recruit students. She also served as editor and writer of the Tabor College Connection magazine.

She moved back to Detroit and eventually took a job at DTE Energy in July 2016. She served as the primary digital content strategist and user experience (UX) writer for DTE’s Digital Experience Group. In April 2023, she took a job in the banking industry.

In May 2025, Katrina will complete her master of science degree in digital content strategy with emphasis in integrated marketing and communication at the University of Kansas. Rock chalk!

In her free time, she travels, walks, swims, does yoga and meditates.
